Children’s House Communities, Ages 2 ½ to 6 years

New Horizons Montessori School Toddler Program and Childrens HouseOur Children’s House program is bustling with 3, 4 and 5-year olds eager to plunge into social and academic activities. The environment is designed to satisfy the needs and tendencies of children in this phase of development. The Montessori curriculum is rich with materials and areas of study that meet the child’s “sensitive periods”: those windows of opportunity when learning a particular subject is most easily accomplished. Whether the child is exploring math, language, sensorial, geography, music, art work, or playing on the playground, teachers or “guides”, trained to be astute observers of each child, gently guide him toward independence, concern for community, and the most appropriate academic lessons.

All Day:
Beginning with the 2006-07 school year, one Children’s House classroom will be an All-Day Montessori classroom, beginning at 7:30am and operating until 6:00pm. The model of a full Montessori day was established by Dr. Montessori with the first Children’s House 100 years ago, and answers the need for a longer school day. An All-Day Montessori classroom is respectful of children’s natural rhythms and need for continuity.

Half-Day:
Two Children’s House classrooms will offer a half-day program for young children in their first two years, beginning at 8:30am and ending at 12:15.

Kindergarten:
All three classrooms culminate in a Kindergarten year.
